Who will be the 'Quick on the Draw'champions for Maths Week 2016?
There will be a Multiplication and Division Tables Challenge for 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils and a Subtraction and Addition Tables Challenge for 3rd class pupils. Will Stevie Almond, Saad Chaudhary and Joshua Delaney retain their titles?!!
This year we are holding a 'Decorate a Maths Door' competition for pupils in 5th and 6th classes - pick a maths theme/topic and decorate the outside of your classroom door with maths inspired images, symbols, equations, numbers, photos, quotes etc. One class from each of these class groups, with the most creatively decorated door, will receive prizes of a Chase Across The Square board game and a homework pass. Best of luck!

This year, the pupils from 3rd to 6th class in our school are participating in the Children in Crossfire (CIC) Maths Challenge. This Maths Challenge takes place from February 1st to February 15th 2016. During these two weeks, we will work collaboratively with our class teacher to solve a variety of maths problems. CIC is an international organisation working to protect and promote the rights of some of the world's most vulnerable children. CIC projects in Tanzania and Ethiopia invest in children's futures through education and health programmes. We are collecting one euro from each child who participates in the Maths Challenge to help this worthy cause.
Best of luck to all the children and their teachers!

Drogheda Homeless Aid Collection 2015
The spirit of generosity is alive and well in SMPPS. This is evident from the amount of coins donated by guardians, parents, pupils and staff of our school community. A coin collection, launched on November 24th and wrapped up on December 11th, yielded a little over 400kg of coins. This endeavour undertaken at all class levels, was enthusiastically received and keenly pursued by pupils of all ages. An element of good humoured, inter-class competition and the promise of a reward, when a target of 1kg was achieved by each class, provided additional motivation. The total weight of coins collected amounted to 416.3kg. All proceeds, amounting in total to 4975.77 euros, were donated to Drogheda Homeless Aid. A special word of thanks to our caretaker, Michael, who carried the heavy containers of coins from our classrooms to Ms. Dolan's room to be counted!
A comprehensive and beautifully presented bar chart, compiled by Ms. Mc Kenna's fourth class pupils and proudly on display in the front hall, illustrates in mathematical terms the weight of the coins collected by the individual classes.
